If you are self-employed or a contractor, and GST registered, try this invoice template provided by Ministry of Business, Innovation, and employment. It automatically calculates GST for you on net amounts.
It’s a PDF, and you can enter your contact details to begin with, and then mark the file as read only:
- To make a file (in this case a PDF) read-only, so that you can’t accidentally overwrite it, open File Explorer (if in Windows), find the file, and right-click the name.
- Choose “Properties” from the menu.
- Look for “Attributes”. and select “Read-only”, then click Ok.
This prevents further changes being saved to this file, leaving you to enter details for an invoice, and then save a copy for your records, and for emailing to the customer.
Be sure to use a unique invoice number for each invoice.
This leaves the original template file ready for the next invoice.
If you ever want to make changes to your original template, just go and untick “Read-only”, make the changes, and then mark as “Read-only” again.
